NIH Salary Cap Update FY2022

February 11, 2022

The Office of Personnel Management released new salary levels for the Executive Pay Scale effective January 2, 2022. As a result of these changes the Federal Executive Level II (i.e., NIH salary cap) has increased from $199,300 to $203,700. On February 10, 2022, the National Institutes of Health released Guidance on Salary Limitation for Grants and Cooperative Agreements (NOT-OD-22-076).

Proposals

InfoEd has already been updated to reflect the new Executive Level II salary, and NIH proposal budgets submitted to Sponsored Research should reflect the new salary level. Please note: For NIH proposals that are in progress in InfoEd, you will have to click “Refresh from Appointment” on the salary detail for each person over the salary cap level.

Awards

For active awards restricted to Executive Level II, including competing awards already issued in FY2022, if adequate funds are available, and if the salary cap increase is consistent with the institutional base salary, grantees may rebudget funds to accommodate the current Executive Level II salary level. However, no additional funds will be provided to these grant awards.
